Environment
Timber is recognised as one of the most environmentally friendly commercial building materials. This renewable resource of growing trees helps to reduce global warming by absorbing carbon dioxide. Timber uses only a fraction of the non-renewable fossil fuels burned in production when compared to PVC and Steel, moreover its natural beauty and tactile quality makes it a must have in today's living environment. When consideration is given to the care that is taken in the preparation and treatment of natural wood, together with Willowside Joinery's design and craftsmanship, the results can be aesthetically stunning, practical and durable.
Willowside Joinery satisfies stringent environmental criteria with timber sourced from well-managed and sustainable forests. The Company's suppliers of European Redwood abide by stringent replanting and wildlife preservation policies and many have Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) or Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes (PEFC) accreditation. Wherever possible any hardwood is sourced from FSC accredited suppliers.
Willowside Joinery Ltd is committed to operating in an environmentally friendly manner and takes positive steps to minimise the environmental impact of its operations and products. We purchase a majority of timbers from merchants holding a 'Chain of Custody' certificate. Such certificates may only relate to the forest and not the actual processing Mill. Such certification is linked to FSC (Forestry Stewardship Council) and PEFC (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification) registration controlling the sourcing of timbers from 'managed' forestry facilities, where plantation programmes ensure the replenishment of new trees long before harvested timber has reached the end of its life cycle. Willowside Joinery Ltd does not currently offer any return facility for used products.
We take our environmental responsibilities very seriously and strive to minimise any adverse impacts that our activities have. We aim to make a positive contribution to the environmental quality of the communities in which we work. We will comply with all relevant legislation as an absolute minimum standard and aim to continually improve our performance, implementing good practice on all new projects.
This environmental policy forms a very important part of our overall company sustainability strategy. In particular, we will:
- Keep our environmental impact to a minimum
- Re-cycle waste materials and packaging
- Carbon offset where appropriate and meaningful
- Use environmentally friendly coatings, adhesives and finishes
- Source eco-friendly materials wherever possible across our operations
Willowside Joinery's Environmental Policy is reviewed annually and amended as appropriate.
